Pomimo to Fantazy czuł przemożną potrzebę bycia w tym miejscu, chłonięcia go.
On miał tylko standardowe jedno.
Postanowił wrócić pieszo do domu.

Fantazy looked at the lime-whitewashed wall and thought that he shouldn’t be here. And yet - in the morning, after waking up and eating a piece of toast, he got on a tram, number five, changed to an eleven-and-a-half, and finally to a fourteen and seven-ninths, and arrived on a street that looked as if someone had turned the contrast and colour-saturation sliders way down and switched on fog mode. He entered an empty tenement building and went downstairs, and was now in an empty room that was about to become someone’s home. Yes, he shouldn’t be here. This was not his world. There were no frivolous lines here, no whimsical triangles, no pink underwear. Despite this, Fantazy felt an overwhelming need to be in this place, to absorb it. He could feel a promise in the air. He could feel a dense forest with a long path down which one could escape. He could feel that he was doing something forbidden. He wanted these things; he wanted to be beside them, in them, and between them.
He ran his hand over the wall. He wasn’t sure it was a good idea - it might be releasing toxic chemical compounds - but the atmosphere of the place was getting to him more and more, and the danger didn't occupy his thoughts. He turned around. He imagined that a large, roundish, softly curved, indeterminate yet powerful figure was standing in the doorway. A little as if it were made of cardboard, and a little as if it were made of something far more durable; he knew absolutely nothing about materials, but the name “basalt” sounded appropriate. He imagined himself dancing with this figure, in this room, wildly, boundlessly, with passion and joy, and with that clichéd but perfectly apt total sense of being here and now. The figure uttered, one after another, profoundly non-intellectual platitudes to him (believing it was uttering the deepest truths), but it had seven lives, like a cat. He had only the standard one. He would like to have seven too.
Fantazy decided to see the other rooms. In each one, he found something interesting. In one there was a half-smoked cigarette. In another, a crumpled bedsheet. In the next, a very dark one, he had the impression that he had brushed against someone, but it was only an impression. Yet another was lined with thick foam mats that were wet, though there was no certainty that the substance on them was water. The last one contained lots of bottles of various sizes and colours, as well as posters of bands from the 1980s. He liked these objects; he felt good among them, warm.
He returned for a moment to the room with the whitewashed wall. It wasn’t a beautiful wall. It provided merely the bare minimum of functionality, making no attempt to contribute positively to the room’s aesthetics. He remembered the blue, yellow and red walls he had at home, which a specialist had beautifully finished for him using custom-made paints in exactly the right shades. What a different experience. He had the irresistible feeling that his own walls disappointed him. They seemed to speak, but kept saying the same thing, and their words were sterile. These white walls here wrote dramas in many acts.
Fantazy went out onto the street, where there was absolute silence. He had the impression that everyone had fled before him, but he knew that wasn’t it. It was simply that, at this hour, they did not yet exist; they would exist later, in the second half of the day, when he would be eating dinner. He decided to walk home. Walking helps one understand a city and develop an awareness of how its individual parts connect to one another. The city is people, Fantazy thought - and had the impression that by saying this he lied.
